Let\u2019s start with the facts:<\/p>\n<h2>The Impact of Caregiving on Your Immune System: Balancing Health and Compassion<\/h2>\n<h3>The Relationship Between Stress and the Immune System<\/h3>\n<p>A study published in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1073\/pnas.1120972109\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/a>\u00a0explored the link between stress and lowered immune reactions, finding that negatively stressful situations increase individuals\u2019 cytokine levels. A study led by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/news\/media\/releases\/johns_hopkins_led_study_shows_increased_life_expectancy_among_family_caregivers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health<\/a>\u00a0found that caregivers had a nine-month-longer life expectancy over the six years the study was conducted, or an 18 percent survival advantage over their non-caregiver counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing how to stay healthy as a caregiver isn\u2019t just about eating lots of vegetables and taking regular trips to the gym. Caring for your emotional health and maintaining low levels of stress are vital to your overall health.
