The CDC recommends brisk walking, cycling, swimming, water aerobics, light gardening, group exercise classes and dancing.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re wondering, \u201chow long should I exercise?\u201d,\u00a0the CDC suggests these weekly targets suitable for most older adults:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>150 minutes each week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>75 minutes each week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity or<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A combination of both; one minute of vigorous activity equals about 2 minutes of moderate activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember, it\u2019s always a good idea to check with a healthcare professional to create an exercise program tailored to your needs and conditions.<\/p>\n<h2>Let\u2019s take a closer look at the benefits of low-impact exercise for seniors:<\/h2>\n<h3>Independence and Falls<\/h3>\n<p>Doing regular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeline.com\/blog\/14-exercises-for-seniors-to-improve-strength-and-balance\/\">strength, balance and flexibility exercises<\/a> can help us stay\u00a0independent and potentially prevent falls.
